One Pass Productivity - increased profitability with long
perfecting presses by Heidelberg
With over 70 percent of the world market, Heidelberger
Druckmaschinen AG is the unrivalled market leader in long
perfecting presses in the 70x100 format range. There is an
installed basis of over 900 Speedmaster long perfecting presses.
The main market is periodical, magazine and journal printers and
geographically the top markets are Germany, the UK, Australia / New
Zealand and Japan.
An excellent example of the Speedmaster SM 102's quality and
reliability are the two British print shops Westdale Press and
Stephens & George. Each produces more than 50 million
impression a year on a 12-color Speedmaster SM 102. After three
years and 150 million printed sheets, the 12-color presses at these
companies will be replaced by new long perfectors. The presses are
still in perfect working condition and each will achieve a good
price on the second-hand market.
Increased Profitability and Flexibility of Use
The advantages of long perfecting presses are clear;
single pass production printing both sides doubles productivity and
less staff are required which means lower costs. In addtion,
throughput times are reduced because intermediate production steps
are eliminated. There is not intermediate storage of pallets. And
from a quality point of view the printer knows that with single
pass printing the front and reverse sides of the sheet will match.
Perfecting technology by Heidelberg - the two sides of success
Heidelberg's three-drum perfecting system is made up of a
reversing, a storage and a transfer drum. The same applies in B1,
B2 or B3 format. This perfecting system is the secret to the
success of the company's One-Pass Productivity philosophy; it
stands for high printing quality and flexibility, register accuracy
and reliable stability throughout a run.
The automated perfecting unit easily switches between jobs
maximizing flexibility. Perfecting jobs as well as straight
printing jobs with process colours and special colours can be
economically produced in a single pass.
Innovations for Perfect Results
At drupa 2004 Heidelberg introduced the Perfecting
Coating Solution which enables printers to apply process colors and
special colors on the one hande but also dispersion varnish on both
sides of a sheet in a single pass. This allows a printer to switch
between inking and coating quickly and easily without investment in
a dedicated coating unit.
Higher Quality and Less Amount of Time Lost with Cylinder
Jackets by Heidelberg
A further innovation for perfecting presses is the
optimized cylinder jacket TransferJacket. These jackets, for
transfer cylinders 1 and 3, feature excellent ink-repellence. A
special ink-repellent coating is applied to the surface of
TransferJacket. The coating prevents ink build-up in the long run
and therefore extends the time in between cleaning.
The impression cylinder jacket PerfectJacket has been
improved even further. The base structure of PerfectJacket Plus is
even finer, which improves the perfecting quality with extremely
thick layers of ink.
Thanks to the well thought-out technology and ground-breaking
innovations, One Pass Productivity by Heidelberg is the key to
success - not only for customers with a Speedmaster SM 102, of
course. Many innovations reach beyond the limits of individual
formats and can therefore also be used for Speedmaster perfecting
presses in the formats 35x50 and 50x70.
