Heidelberg Presents Solutions for the Newspaper Production
Process
At IFRA 99, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg)
will be presenting itself as a solutions provider for
industrial-scale newspaper and magazine production. In an
exhibition space of 750 square meter, Heidelberg and its
cooperation partner SAP AG will be demonstrating an integrated
production process which takes the page from the editor's desk
through to dispatch. It centers on the new concept newspaper rotary
press - the Mainstream 80 - and various software innovations.
The Mainstream 80 concept has never been demonstrated in
Europe before. The machine is based on Sunday Technology and
achieves production speeds of up to 80,000 copies per hour. The
first compo-nent of the Mainstream 80 to be previewed at IFRA 99
will be the new Contiweb FD flying paster. The FD paster has a
number of innovative automation features developed especially for
this type of printing press. New mailroom facilities, such as
newspaper packaging systems, complete the concept. The complete
Mainstream 80 system will make its debut at drupa 2000.
On the software side, Heidelberg will be demonstrating a new
version of its successful publishing system, Linopress. Also on
display will be the first few components of an integrated
production management system, including Internet solutions for
advertising sales. On the prepress production side,
Heidelberg's display will feature a remote digital camera
workflow, the Topaz iX Copix scanner with LinoColor 6.0 and the
Herkules Basic Newspaper imagesetter.
IFRA 99 will take place in Amsterdam (Netherlands) from
October 11 to 14.
