CeBIT 2001, Hall 1, Stand 6 A2

12/07/2000

Heidelberg Exhibits Integrated Printing and Media House of the Future

Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) will have an entirely new presence at CeBIT, which will be held from March 22 - 28, 2001, in Hanover.

The company will have a new location (Stand 6 A2) in Hall 1 and will be exhibiting its solutions for digital printing and software applications for printing companies and printing centers in large enterprises on an area of almost 900 squaremeter. "The printshop of the future must develop into an integrated print and media house," explains Holger Reichardt, Marketing Director at Heidelberg. "We want to use CeBIT to address not just classical target groups from the graphic arts industry, but also new customers such as IT specialists and decision makers and buyers in in-house print shops, local authorities and industrial companies. We will also be lobbying for the print media at what is the world's most important communication fair", adds Holger Reichardt.

The modern printing industry is an integral part of the communications sector. With its integrated solutions and network processes, Heidelberg has based its strategy on precisely this fact. What is more, the fact that IT and print are growing ever closer together will be illustrated by means of a real business transaction which will be shown at the stand and in a presentation.

Print expertise in action
This motto will be used at CeBIT to show visitors all processes encountered in the digital workflow - beginning from data capture and processing to final output on a whole range of devices. Standard interfaces such as PDF and JDF, which Heidelberg played a major part in developing, have made device-independent processing possible. The data input devices on display at CeBIT will include the Colorcam digital camera, Linoscan scanners and Nexscan scanners with New Color 7000 image processing software. The Prinergy and Delta Direct workflow solutions form the bridge to the press stage. The print job is output on the Digimaster 9110 digital print solution, the NexPress digital color printing system or the fully digital Quickmaster DI 46-4 sheetfed offset press, depending on the customer's requirements. Personalized printing, print on demand and short-run color can also be implemented quickly and in high quality. Subsequent finishing options are controlled directly using prepress data - thanks to the information stored in job tickets. The Prinance software tracks the job data from the initial quotation to the actual costing and invoicing stages, thereby ensuring commercial transparency. The user can see at a glance whether the print job is profitable and can then improve the job flow accordingly. The solutions show how professional quality can be achieved and personalized quickly with the support of IT environments.

Global knowledge network for the print media industry

Heidelberg understands solutions as more than just hardware and software - they must also include "brainware", e.g. customer service, consultancy and training components. The dramatic changes taking place in the graphic arts industry mean that training and accompanying skills are playing an everincreasing role. Heidelberg's Print Media Academy has provided a center for communication, qualification and knowledge for the graphic arts industry since April 2000. Its global portfolio will also be on display at CeBIT - and will range from product and management training to the advanced "Print Manager" MBA course.

Heidelberg's portfolio is rounded off by excellent customer and consulting services. The company is also a very attractive employer. With around 1,000 software engineers, Heidelberg is one of the largest software developers in Germany.
