For Creative Minds and Shrewd Money-Managers
The Speedmaster XL 105 LPL prints and coats on both sides in a
single pass. For shrewd money-managers and creative minds this
minimizes production time and increases the variety of finishing
options.
Sheets run through the Speedmaster XL 105 LPL like an express
train. The more than thirty meters long power press needs only a
single pass to achieve what took the XL 105 two passes: print and
coat a sheet on both sides. "The XL 105 with one coating unit each
upstream and downstream of the perfecting unit is an uncompromising
step toward more profitability. Each job passes through the press
only once. That reduces production time significantly", explains
Heidelberg Product Manager Kerstin Höhn. Since the products
are coated on both sides, they can be finished without delay. No
more waiting and drying times, and no more intermediate storing of
semi-finished products.
The ergonomic operation via the Prinect Press Center control
console as well as Saphira consumables that are tailored to the XL
105 LPL add to the perfection of the printed results and the
reduction of the manufacturing time. Print-shop customers who
perform on site color ok's also benefit from this increased
efficiency: they no longer have to wait to see their print products
coated on both sides.
Gaining New Customers with Special Effects
As the two users Daneels Graphische Gruppe from Belgium
and K&D Graphics from the United States show, the brand new
flagship Speedmaster XL 105 LPL is ideal for shrewd money-managers
as well as creative minds. After all, one coating unit each
upstream and downstream of the perfecting unit does not only make
the press more productive, it also offers more finishing
possibilities. For K&D Graphics from Orange, California, that
was an important point. When the company commissioned the
Speedmaster XL 105-6+LYY-P-6+L (UV) equipped with a CutStar sheeter
in December 2008, its intention was to cater for the premium and
high-volume commercial and packaging market more efficiently.
The company is well-known for its high-quality products such
as brochures, posters, postcards, and packaging material. Much of
it is printed in photo-realistic quality. With the UV-version of
the Speedmaster XL 105-6+LYY-P-6+L, the creative Californians know
no limits to their hunt for eyecatchers. They can print process
colors plus two special colors in a single pass, for instance,
while at the same time applying a spot, scented, or gloss coating.
Or they can create special effects with iriodin or metallic ink
plus a protective coating. Duo applications, where the coating unit
first applies opaque white to aluminized paper that is then printed
and coated, are also possible. "Thanks to the new press, we have
been able to extend our premium packaging print capacities and gain
many new customers", summarizes company President Don Chew.
Delivery Times Matter
"Short delivery times, even for high print volumes", that
is the strategy of the Daneels Graphische Gruppe in Beerse,
Belgium. The company really steps on the gas in the quiet town near
Antwerp. "Delivery times have become the decisive competitive
factor", reports company boss Kris Daneels. "Only the most advanced
technology such as the Speedmaster XL 105-6+LYY-P-6+L allows us to
maintain our productivity lead." Daneels already operates several
XL 105 presses as well as a twelve-color Speedmaster 102 with a
perfecting unit and a Perfecting Coating Solution (PCS). More than
half of the products are coated on both sides. That increases their
quality while also enabling early finishing and delivery. And that
is important for the company: roughly one third of the
products-commercial prints such as brochures, flyers, and leaflets
for renowned customers from the automobile, cosmetics, consumer
electronics, and food industry-are exported to neighboring
countries. The deadlines for these jobs are often very tight.
"With our new Speedmaster XL 105 LPL, we want to process jobs
in even less time", explains Daneels. That is why the press is
equipped with Prinect Inpress Control which automatically measures
the ink and register during production and immediately communicates
the necessary corrections to the Prinect Press Center. The full
automation and the JDF workflow also help leveraging the strengths
of the XL 105. "We can print the front and back side of a sheet
with up to six colors and apply a dispersion coating in a single
pass. Thanks to this extra flexibility and profitability, we are
able to deliver high quality on time and at a fair price",
emphasizes Daneels.
